Approximately 100 citations and 50 U.S. patents were identified on the subject of HDD in permafrost environments, through 12 databases.The search was not limited by date or by language, in order to get a broadly based output.
Pipelines and permafrost were not executed together as a separate search since this strategy yielded too much material that was not related to HDD. A search on pipelines and permafrost could be limited by bringing in additional terms that describe special conditions that might apply such as environmental issues, corrosion and coatings, welding, transportation, Federal regulations, etc.
